YOUTH TRADITIONAL DRUM WORKSHOP
Today was Day 2 of AEF’s Traditional Drum Workshop with Kiita’s high school students, taught by Herman Ahsoak. In the first session, they learned about the steaming process and how to give the wood its circular shape. Today, they removed the wood from the drums, worked together to glue the frames, and prepared their drum handles. The frames will set overnight and we will continue the process in our next session.
We look forward to finishing up these drums just in time for Kivgiq!
Quyanaqpak Herman for taking the time to teach these youth workshops! Quyanaqpak to IHLC and Kiita Learning Community for the workspaces. And quyanaqpak to Arctic Slope Community Foundation, who sponsored these events!
