Imelda Degenhardt should be a familiar name to most if not all. This wonderful woman lived in Barrow till 2005 and has been with the cooperative for 22 years.

She came to us from the ASTAC purchased company, GTE, in 2000 starting as a Customer Experience Specialist, then onto Lead CES in 2010, and more recently became our CABS Coordinator in 2018.

Imelda’s favorite part about her job is the ability to balance her work-life and personal-life without much interference. “It’s my co-workers, growth potential, workplace flexibility, the ability to work remotely, and the satisfying feeling I get when helping others” she says. But why ASTAC? Imelda reveals that it’s about having that “sense of accomplishment, being a part of a team who will assist others when needed, and the development of the employee.”

Since transferring to the Anchorage office, she says that “During my time up north, I had the distinct privilege of traveling to all the service communities, meeting residents – which many of whom are close friends and learning the exclusive cultural aspects of the North Slope Borough.” She also shared that her true passion and refueling comes from dipnetting for salmon, whipping up recipes in the kitchen, fishing in our world-class waters, and some retail shopping therapy.

We are proud of your accomplishments, Imelda, and we thank you for your dedication and service to this company. It’s lived experience like hers that proves to be an invaluable asset time and time again
