Urgent Travel/Trails Update:
October 18, 2022
Due to the drop and rise in temperatures throughout the Northwest Arctic Borough, travel on any ice is NOT ADVISED at this time.
Please take extreme caution while traveling via boat as the rivers and sloughs are very icy and may freeze back over at any time. Ice in the coming weeks will be thin and unable to hold any weight.
Remind your residents to keep an eye on children if they are playing out, freshly frozen ice is very dangerous and with the rise in the temps this week it will be very slushy and unpredictable. Children and adults can easily fall through the previously frozen ice and be swept under.
If you need to file a trip plan or to report any lost or overdue travelers, please call the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue Coordinator at: 907-412-2038
