Deployed

While deployed for Arctic West Summer 2022, U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy (WAGB 20) made a historic transit to the North Pole, arriving on September 30th, 2022. This is the third time Healy has travelled to 90 degrees north and only the second time that a U.S. ship has done so unaccompanied. After completing several days of science stations at the pole, crew members and the science team were able to enjoy ice liberty on October 2nd. During this time, a “North Pole” created by Healy crew members was erected on the ice and the cutter was treated to a special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
