To urge the borough to build a new gym in Kaktovik sooner, a group of Harold Kaveolook School students held signs during the North Slope Borough Assembly meeting last week.
"Our kids need a place to play, a place to practice sports and not have to be outside in the mud and cold or worry about the polar bears," Kaktovik Mayor and Inupiaq teacher Flora Rexford said. "How many more years do our youth need to wait to have even just a temporary place to play and practice sports?"
