Inform Residents

The Northwest Arctic Borough would like to inform residents that we are in a coastal flood warning until 10AM, Monday, September 19, 2022. The potential impacts for Deering, Kivalina and Kotzebue are as followed:

Deering: Water levels: 2-4 feet above the normal high tide line is occurring currently. The highest water levels are occurring now and will begin to decrease early tomorrow morning. South winds 30 to 40 mph. Significant erosion is likely.

Kivalina: Water levels: 4-5 feet above the normal highest tide line, currently peaking. The highest water levels are occurring currently and will begin to decrease this evening. South winds of 20 to 25 mph and will continue to decrease. Significant erosion is likely.

Kotzebue: Water levels: 4-5 feet above the normal high tide line. The highest water levels are occurring currently and will remain high through early Monday morning. South winds of 25 to 30 mph and will continue to decrease. Significant beach erosion is likely.

Our incident command team is working with the Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers, and Kotzebue Police Department for any emergency action. For emergencies outside of Kotzebue please contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-451-5100. For emergencies in Kotzebue, please contact the Kotzebue Police Department at 911.
