2022 Ivalu Scholarship Winner
The Arctic Education Foundation (AEF) is proud to announce the 2022 Ivalu Scholarship winner, Alexandra Martin of Kotzebue, Alaska.
Alexandra Martin is from Kotzebue, Alaska. She graduated from Kotzebue High School, class of 2021 where she graduated as a high honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. Her mother is Jade Hill, from Kotzebue, Alaska and her father is Derek Martin, from Nome, Alaska. Her maternal grandparents are Jackie Joule Hill and the late Randall Joe Hill of Kotzebue, and May and Tony Joule. Alexandra’s paternal grandparents are Glenn Martin, formerly of Nome and New York and June Gologergen Martin of Savoonga, and Timothy and Anna Gologergen. She was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and raised in Kotzebue. Alexandra is Inupiaq Eskimo and Siberian Yupik.
Alexandra is attending Northern Arizona University where she currently is majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in Nutrition and Foods Science. Her plan is to further her degree and get a doctorate in physical therapy or a master’s in athletic training. When done schooling, her plan is to be actively involved in the state of Alaska getting sports and nutrition camps started and more accessible. One of her biggest future goals is to build a gym in her hometown of Kotzebue and to get not only children, but people of all ages to start being more active and taking care of our health.
