Attention residents of Selawik: NWAB SAR, AST and Rescue Coordination Center have been notified of a one time use personal locator beacon going off in the village of Selawik. If you have a PLB in Selawik please make sure the SOS button is not pushed. We believe that this is an accidental SOS push because the coordinates are directly in the village of Selawik and the pings are “bouncing” as if it is in a building or home, not looking directly up at the sky to a direct satellite.
Kirk Oviok in Selawik is also announcing over the VHF the same information.
