Ila James grew up in Sivuqaq. Her Yupik name is Ungaalaq. Ila is a Tribal citizen of the Native Village of Gambell. Her aspiration for this internship is to gain work experience and gain skills like problem solving, critical thinking and public speaking. She will be spending her time at Kawerak in a Native Language Translating position. Ila’s aspirations after college are to attain her bachelor’s degree. She lived in Gambell all her life and last fall Ila moved to Fairbanks to study at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her favorite activities consist of subsisting on her native foods. Ila also enjoys hanging out with her friends, being outdoors and making a bonfire.
