Hopson Middle School issued the following announcement on April 8.
This call message was sent out as soon as the school was declared safe from the police. Please contact us if you did not get this message so we can verify your information:
Let me start off by thanking each parent and student for their incredible patience and cooperation today. Safety is always taken seriously at Hopson Middle School, and all of our schools. Earlier today, there was a report of a potential safety issue at the school. We immediately began our emergency protocol by calling the police, evacuating the staff and student population and involving our new Chief School Administrator, David Vediveloo. The police were at HMS within minutes.
The police followed their protocol to ensure it was safe and suitable to run educational services. With the support of our M&O Department and Transportation, buses were sent to the school for the students to stay warm and safe. The police did a full sweep of the school and deemed the school safe to bring our students and staff back. In conjunction with Chief School Administrator Vediveloo, and the police, it was decided to open school back up for the rest of the day.
Additionally, I want to thank you for your understanding that your children could not be released from the buses until they returned safely to school. This action is in accordance with school and district policy, to ensure we have accountability of each student we are charged to protect and educate.
School will remain open as normal and we welcome all of our students back tomorrow to end the week, with the continuation of ending the school year on a positive note. My door is always open to each and every parent and community member. If you have any further questions, please call and ask for me, and I will glad to talk to you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Charles W. TenBroeck, III
Principal of Hopson Middle School
