Kawerak issued the following announcement on March 11.

The 2022 Child Care Needs Assessment for the Bering Strait Region is now available online! Kawerak contracted with McKinley Research Group to prepare this analysis of child care needs, availability, and infrastructure in the Bering Strait region. The survey demonstrated that across the region, community members express a need for more child care options, facilities, afterschool and summer care, provider training, financial assistance, and support for community wellness.

To gather information for the report, stakeholder interviews were completed along with the collection of surveys. Kawerak staff traveled to eight sites in August to gather surveys and share resources. Where travel restrictions were in place, local community members assisted with survey collection and resource sharing. We appreciate all those who were willing to take part in the survey!

We are excited to share this data and use it to make improvements in our region! This report will help guide the next steps toward creating a five year strategic plan to increase access, availability, and quality of child care in the region.
