Bureau of Land Management issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public comments on an Environmental Assessment of a Special Use Permit for an existing subsistence cabin located within the Unalakleet Wild and Scenic River corridor.

The cabin, on a one-acre parcel of BLM-managed public land, has been used for subsistence purposes since 1973.  That use is compatible under Section 1303(b)(2) of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, which allows the Secretary of the Interior to issue a renewable five-year special use permit for the traditional and customary use of existing cabins.

The BLM welcomes and values diverse views about the public land it manages on behalf of the American people. Comments on the proposal will be accepted through February 26, 2020.  A description of the proposal can be found on the BLM ePlanning website.  A link to ePlanning can be found at https://www.blm.gov/office/anchorage-field-office.

Comments can be submitted electronically through ePlanning, by email at blm_ak_afo_general_delivery@blm.gov, or by mail at:
